Reduce Bandwith Usage TipsDecember 8th, 2008

My Busby SEO Test Page now have more weight, I think it’s because there’s more than 100 comment and I use javascript and uncompressed CSS. It is widely accepted that fast-loading pages improve the user experience. Fast loading page also means, light site and off course this mean we can save our bandwith usage. So how to make fast loading site and Reduce Bandwith Usage ? Here some tips I found on net.

Before we go to the tips, let me explain about bandwidth usage. Bandwith usage refers to the total amount of information that has been served to your web site visitors. Every file on our Site has a specific size, and every time a visitor downloads that file, our bandwidth usage goes up by that amount.

In short, the more traffic (visitor) we have on our site, the larger the file on our site it’s mean the higher the bandwidth usage.

Simple tips to reduce web site bandwith usage :
1. Analyze your site size with this tools, to improve website performance. Free web page analysis tool calculates page size, composition, and download time. Gives speed recommendations based on best practices for usability, HCI, and website optimization.
2. Host all images else were.
There are a lot free image hosting. For an example : Imageshack, Flickr, Photobucket. Or you want more space for less price, try http://aws.amazon.com/s3/.
3. Host Scripts, and other files (CSS, JS) else were.
4. Disable hotlinking (use php or .htaccess), you could try google for this tips.
5. Optimize the size of your JavaScript and CSS.
To compress your CSS to increase loading speed and save on bandwidth as well. you can use CSS Compressor by cssdrive.
And to compress your javascript file you can use JS Minifier. Or read this article about how to make your pages load faster by combining and compressing javascript and css files I found at rakaz.nl
6. Rakaz also write tips about how to Reducing the bandwidth used by feeds.

Well if I do all this things for my Busby SEO Test Blog and page , I think it will raise my page load time and reduce my bandwith usage.
