NXT, the flat panel speaker company, has developed a stereo speaker reference kit capable of delivering boost audio power of 15 Watts per channel powered solely from a USB delivering 2.5 Watts (5V at 500mA) to the speakers

The idea of the kit is to let design engineers and product decision-makers judge the audio quality, sound levels and power efficiency of NXT’s combined amplifier and transducer technologies.

“80% of the BOM is NXT’s,” James Lewis, CEO of NXT (pictured below), told Electronics Weekly.

The ‘NXT Inside’ element of the speakers consists of NXT’s proprietary transducer, and an amplifier based on the technology of Audium which NXT recently acquired.

NXT has put the transducer and the amplifier together in a module selling for $15-20. The strong, even, sound dispersion delivered by the reference kit speakers suggests a $100-quality product.
