Nikon D3100: Entry level DSLR gets an updateAlison Johnson of Digitalcamerareview.com is reporting that the new model has gone up to a 14.2 megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor, and has a new EXPEED 2 image processor. Beginners will still get help getting to grips with the camera via the in-built Guide Modes; these have been updated from the D3000.

The D3100 has 1080p HD video recording available at 24 fps, 720p videos can be recorded at 24 or 30 fps. Video mode is easily activated by the Live View switch and has a dedicated video record button, and there is an in-camera clip trimming option. An Auto Scene Selector will help in choosing settings, and the camera can use the new high-capacity SDXC format as well as SD/SDHC memory media.

Available in mid September and will come with the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens for $699.95/£579.99.
