Just in time for the holiday season, OnlineClock.net has created several fun new stopwatch games for friends and families to enjoy together.
In response to several posts in forums by readers who were using Online Clock‘s already existing stopwatch feature to make up their own games, these great new stopwatch game ideas were created. The best part is that these games are all free, easy to learn and fun for people of all ages. They are also useful learning tools for younger users.
A booklet published by The Learning And Skills Development Agency, a Utah government-run agency, reports that games are useful tools for implementing important concepts about math and science, especially those that are difficult to learn directly from a book. The booklet is titled “The Use Of Computer And Video Games For Learning.” These games all provide multiple opportunities for math lessons, including counting, adding and subtracting time fragments. This blog will explain how Online Clock’s new stopwatch games are played.
The first game is called “How Fast Can You Click“.

How fast can you double-click on the big red stopwatch button?
This is an excellent coordination game and also provides a good workout for whichever finger is used for clicking the left button on the mouse. The objective of this stopwatch game is to simply click the large red button on the game’s page as quickly as possible, which starts and stops the stopwatch clock. Once “start” has been clicked, clicking again will initiate the “stop” feature; it is not necessary to double-click the button to start or stop the stopwatch clock. By clicking the start/stop button quickly, time sequences are each measured in a separate line in ascending order below the red button. To illustrate this description, the speed reports are each measured in rows that will look like this:
- 1 Speed: 00:00:00.469
- 2 Speed: 00:00:00.207
- 3 Speed: 00:00:00.364
Note that each click is numbered at the left, followed by the speed time on the right. Each click’s speed increment is counted in milliseconds for the most concise time fragment measurements. (By the way, did you know that OnlineClock.net’s stopwatches are some of the most accurate online, since they all meaure time down to the millisecond? It’s true!)
Since this online stopwatch game leaves room for a continual increase of speed, it is easy to want to play over and over, attempting to beat personal high scores. Below the red start/stop button, the gray “reset” button can be clicked to start over and try to beat previous speeds. This is a competitive game when played in groups or pairs. Feel free to send high scores to Online Clock, as we are interested in feedback and discovering record numbers!
“Five Seconds Stopwatch Game” is the name of the next game using an online stopwatch.

How good at you at guessing when EXACTLY five seconds have elapsed on a stopwatch?
This one is a good guessing game and provides a helpful way to improve mental perceptions of the rate at which seconds pass. The Five Seconds Stopwatch Game consists of a “start” and “reset” button, above which is a text box with the number “5.” Although 5 is the default setting for this game, the number can be changed by clicking in the box and typing in a different number. Keep in mind that each number typed in will be timed in seconds. After the desired target time has been typed in, place the cursor over the start button, make sure the eyes are closed and click to begin the stopwatch.
The second click takes place when it is believed that the time period is over. After the second click and after the eyes are open again, check the amount of time that actually lapsed and compare it to the target number in the box. In competition games with multiple players, the winner is the person who guesses a number closest to their goal. Target times can be set for much higher increments also. For example, if a 10-minute increment is desired, the number 600 must be typed in. The box has space for any number having up to 11 digits for those who want to gauge longer periods of time. As with the first online stopwatch game, this one appears to be incredibly simple but, once you try it, you’ll discover that it’s not as easy as it looks!
The third game, called “How Long Will It Take,” is designed to be a 2-player game.

Use our stopwatch to guess how long it will take for something--anything--to happen. Compare your time to your friend's guessed time.
Along the top half of the page are several drop-down menus with numbers for milliseconds, seconds, minutes and hours. Each player has to option to select the exact time in whichever increments are desired. The object of the stopwatch game is to guess how much time a specific event will take – this could be anything. After each player has selected the exact amount of time they believe the chosen event will take, click the “start” button above the drop-down number guessing boxes.
After the event is over, press the “stop” button and compare each player’s guess against the actual time that passed. Whoever guessed an increment closest to the actual time wins the game. This stopwatch game can be played as many times as desired, simply by clicking the “reset” button and timing another event. To give an example illustration, two players may decide to time all the songs on a favorite music CD. Without looking at the CD’s song descriptions to see the actual time each tune consumes, they may guess the length of each song individually, then play it. After the last song on the CD is over, whoever guessed the closest increments to the actual times the most wins the game. The counter‘s maximum capability includes the ability to count guesses well into larger hour measurements.
These three online stopwatch games are the first to be introduced by OnlineClock.net, but are surely not going to be the last!
As new ideas for more games emerge, expect to see additions to the stopwatch games page. If you have an idea for a new game that you’d like to see online, please send it to us.
For now, we hope you’ll enjoy these three new activities and try to set some record scores – and be sure to share them with your friends and family.
Most people find that games are more fun when friendly competition is involved.
