We Wish You A Merry Clockmas
December 14th, 2010

Christmas clocks make a great gift or accessory for holiday decorating.

There are hundreds of clocks with Christmas themes to choose from. Many stores, both traditional and online, sell a variety of these timepieces. There are also vintage Christmas clocks, but these are more difficult to find and involve searching or using online auction sites such as eBay. We have compiled several different interesting suggestions to help make the Christmas clock shopping process a little easier. And this isn’t the first time, either. We’ve taken a cynical look at the subject of Christmas Clocks before.

Christmas Countdown Clock

The first interesting Christmas clock on our list is the “Christmas Countdown Clock” made by Genuine Hotrod Hardware. It may be purchased from Summit Racing. This desk clock measures 29″ x 20″, is powered by electricity and has a digital time display. Not only is this clock a festive decoration, but it also provides a feature to perform a Christmas countdown. It has the ability to count down the time until Christmas up to 99 days before. At 12:00 a.m. on Christmas morning, the display box will feature the message “HO HO HO!” The best part about this clock is that it can be used outdoors, too. Of course, if you want an online Christmas Countdown, you can get that for free right from the OnlineClock.net website.

Christmas Melodies Clock

Seiko’s Melodies in Motion “Christmas Melodies Clock” is another interesting piece, available from Wristwatch.com. This clock is powered by four AA batteries and can be mounted on the wall. There is also a swinging pendulum that resembles a Christmas ornament with Swarovski crystals. Choose between six Christmas melodies to mark the beginning of the hour. The clock can also be used during the rest of the year, as there are traditional melodies to choose from, such as “My Favorite Things” and “Close To You.” Additional features include a demonstration button, on/off switch and volume control.

Bah Humbug Clock

Clock creators have even designed clocks to express the views of those who are not fans of Christmas – or those who enjoy the cynical Mr. Scrooge from “A Christmas Carol.” One example can be found at Cafe Press. This particular wall clock is made of aluminum and glass and runs on only one AA battery. It has a modern look, but clearly expresses an appreciation of Mr. Scrooge’s famous phrase “Bah Humbug!” Yes, it’s the “Bah Humbug Clock“.

12 Days Of Christmas Clock

12 Days Of Christmas Clock

One very popular Christmas tune is “The 12 Days of Christmas.” There is actually a “12 Days of Christmas Clock” from Expressions Catalog that focuses on that theme. Made of wood and running on one AA battery, this wall clock features a picture of each of the 12 images from the song along with each hour’s number. In the middle is an image of holly leaves and berries; below it is a banner that reads “Twelve Days of Christmas” in an old-fashioned font.

Christmas Cuckoo Clock

Cuckoo clock lovers will enjoy the Santa Claus Edition of the “Christmas Cuckoo Clock” from Cuckoo Kingdom. Manufactured by Sternreiter, this original product is imported from Germany and comes with a 2-year warranty. The clock’s body measures 13″ high x 7″ wide x 6″ deep; the look resembles a Fachwerk-style red and green house with snow on the pitched roof. Surrounding the clock face in the middle of the house are Santa, an elf and a tree. At the top of every hour, a small cuckoo bird pops out with the traditional “cuckoo” sound. There is also an on/off switch to turn this feature off. The hands look like Santa hats and the pendulum is crafted to look like a candy cane. True to the traditional cuckoo clock look, there are also weights and chains on the device.

Another well-known icon of Christmas is the nutcracker. Offered from Bronner’s, which claims to the world’s largest Christmas store online, is a 15″ tall nutcracker statue holding a clock face instead of a drum. The Nutcracker Clock figure stands on a support pedestal and has the traditional suit and tall hat with gold cords – his jacket is even authentic, boasting an embroidered style. He is made of wood with a hand-painted face. Similar to the original design of a nutcracker figurine, there is a wooden lever behind his body that opens and closes his jaw. The clock requires one AA battery to operate.

Snowman Puzzle Clock

A great gift idea or fun project for both kids and adults can be found at Ginny’s online – a Snowman Puzzle Clock. This is truly a unique clock in the aspect that it does not come assembled. The kit comes with puzzle pieces and a board that must be put together and glued first. When it is finished, the background design looks like a snowman in front of a snowy background. After the puzzle has been assembled and glued, the clock mechanism and square frame are added to complete the timepiece. The frame is made of plastic and measures 19 1/4″. This clock runs on one AA battery and can be mounted on the wall.

Christmas Monkey Clock

There are Christmas clocks especially for animal lovers, too. One example is a square wall clock from Sears. Pictured on this clock is a monkey in a Santa suit, but there are several other realistic variations to choose from, including a deer in snowy woods, a guinea pig with a Christmas hat and several other animal designs. These clocks are made by 3D Rose, LLC. Their square faces measure 10″ x 10″ and are made of high-gloss ceramic. Numbers are printed to mark each hour around the clock face.

Christmas Mantel Clock

A list of Christmas clocks would not be complete without a mantel clock in it. One unique mantel clock can be purchased from The Clock Depot online. This timepiece is called “The Carols of Christmas II” and is crafted by Howard Miller. The rounded-top clock has a picture of a wreath on its face, with a number and song title printed on the hour markings. As each hour begins, the song title that accompanies that hour will be played in chime tones. There is an automatic nighttime off switch that can be activated. Red marble tile finish covers the sides of the clock, trimmed with a satin brass finish.

Another option for obtaining a Christmas clock is to order a custom-made clock. Favorite holiday family or pet photos, a favorite Christmas landscape or any other photo can be put on the face of a clock thanks to personalization companies. There are many companies that offer this service, including CafePress.com. They have three different frame and face styles for customizable wall clocks, including a regular custom clock, a large design and a modern design. Customers simply upload a favorite photo, click and drag it to a specific fit in the face frame, save the work and then order the clock.

So there you have it, Clock Fans: OnlineClock.net‘s annual roundup of Christmas Clocks. Some are good, some are bad…but all of them have something to do with Christmas.
