Love him or hate him, Bobby Kotick is a pretty damn successful man. He’s been the head of Activision for the past 20 years or so, and in that time he’s taken the company from a tiny little group that splintered off from Atari to one of the biggest video game publishers in the world.

Now that he’s all but conquered the world of video games, Kotick’s turning his attention to acting, appearing in the upcoming Brad Pitt movie Moneyball. But why? Is he bored with being the CEO of a multi-billion dollar video game company? Perhaps he’s thinking it’s time for a career change? None of the above, actually – in fact, he’s doing it for charity.
According to Kotick, it all started when Moneyball director Bennett Miller asked him for some insight into the owner’s mentality. It was when Kotick gave Miller some feedback on the script that Miller asked him to do the role himself, thinking that he would bring an element of authenticity to the role. Kotick agreed, but only if Miller agreed to direct a short film for the Call of Duty Endowment, Kotick’s recently-revealed non-profit that helps returning veterans readjust to civilian life.
So, even though it doesn’t always seem like it, Kotick actually does have a heart. And what about the possibility of him switching careers and becoming an actor? Don’t worry gamers, he’ll be sticking around for quite a while – he told Reuters that we won’t be seeing him up on the silver screen again. Just what you wanted to hear, right?
